Matthew Richardson Academy
Richmond Football Club launched the Matthew Richardson Academy for the sons and daughters of Former Tigers Men’s and Women’s players and officials in April of 2023. Building on the work of the Club’s Past Players Association, the Academy helps to keep strong family bonds connected to Richmond.
Players and their families were invited to the Club for the launch, with 17 former AFL Tigers and their children attending.
Richardson himself was at the event to lead formalities along with his three daughters. The day included a tour of the Club, a football clinic with current players, and lunch with guest speakers in the Maurice Rioli Room.
Richmond’s Guard of Honour
At our 2026 Round 19 clash with Hawthorn, we invited Matthew Richardson Academy participants to take part in Richmond’s Guard of Honour.
It was a special opportunity to cheer on the Tigers as they formed a guard of honour while the team runs through the banner.
Spots were extremely limited and filled fast. The opportunity was reserved for former players, officials and their children under the age of 18. The club also provided tickets to partners and additional family members for the game.
